New Zealand Announces 15-Man Squad For ICC World Cup 2023

Kane Williamson, who underwent foot surgery earlier this year, has made a full recovery and has been appointed Captain of the New Zealand Cricket team for the ICC World Cup 2023, starting in India on October 5.

Williamson took a long time to recover after the big injury blow. In April 2023, during Gujarat Titans opening game in the IPL, he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee while making an awkward landing while trying to catch a ball near the boundary.

This unfortunate incident forced him to take a break from the game for a long time. Earlier, in an interview, he admitted that the severity of his injury has made his chances of playing in the ICC World Cup 2023 in India uncertain. However, the New Zealand Captain was not one to back down as he remained committed to his recovery journey.

Apart from him, the team remains as expected, with a strong batting lineup that includes talents like Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips. The pace attack has been strengthened by experienced stars like Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson. Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi will lead the attack in the spin department.

Kane Williamson (Captain), Trent Boult, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham (VC & WK), Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee and Will Young.
